L. Suzanne BeDell is General Manager of Dialog, acquired by ProQuest in July 2008. Previously, BeDell was Senior Vice President of Publishing, where she managed ProQuest’s Higher Education Publishing area. She joined ProQuest in 2001 as Vice President and Publisher and played instrumental roles in the development of such critically-acclaimed products as Black Studies Center and ProQuest Central, the world's largest aggregated full-text database.
Prior to her work at ProQuest, BeDell was Senior Vice President of Internet Products at Thomson Healthcare. Her team launched the website pdr.net, transforming a print based business into a web site that delivered e-solutions to healthcare professionals. Medicine on the Net magazine called pdr.net "an incredible customized site … one of the few health care web sites that meets the needs of a wide range of individuals and healthcare professionals, and does it well." She was awarded Healthcare Businesswoman's Association's "Rising Star" award while employed at Thomson Healthcare.
Formerly, BeDell was the Director of Electronic Product Development for Mosby, Inc., a Times-Mirror Company. She also held the role of Publisher at Mosby and launched Mosby's GenRx (now Mosby's Drug Consult), one of the first web-based applications produced by a medical publisher.
Before this, BeDell held a variety of positions in McGraw-Hill's College Division. While at McGraw-Hill, BeDell was a publisher and on the launch team of McGraw-Hill's Primis, the first electronic publishing system for customized textbooks and course packs. She started her career in technical publishing as a Marketing Manager for Gulf Publishing Company in Houston, Texas.
BeDell received a B.A. in Journalism from Drake University. She maintains offices in Ann Arbor and Cary, North Carolina.
